Wow! Seems like we were just complaining about how cold it was, now spring is 'mostly' here and summer is right around the corner. It's time to step up your skincare products (your skin is less dry/more oily in the summer) so you might need a less rich moisturizer and more frequent use of a masque. You'll probably also want to jazz up your makeup for the summer. Put away those heavy, dark matte lipsticks, intense eye shadows and look for lighter, brighter, more shimmery colors and add some shine.
You can easily update your look with a few new fashion pieces and a couple of new shadows and lipsticks. Skin is still perfect so your custom blend foundation and mineral powder will continue to work. If you need them slightly darker for the summer, be sure and let us know when you reorder, we can make them darker without changing the undertone, to give you a "summer color". If you hate to wear makeup in the summer (but lack perfect skin) try our Mineral Powder Foundation with Extra Coverage -- it's not as heavy as liquid foundation but offers excellent coverage and helps even your skin tone, smooth imperfections and has the added benefit of sunscreen. Lips are brighter and sheerer and much more sparkly. Top your matte lipsticks with gloss for shimmer and shine (while the matte color maintains the staying power). We still love lipliner (it keeps your lipstick in place) but it should match your natural lip color or your lipstick - if it contrasts, it looks dated. The overall look for the lip is softer and less noticeably defined, but NOT undone! Shadows are also softer, in keeping with the warmer weather. They are well blended and should make your eyes look beautiful without seeing noticeable shadow colors. Blend, blend and blend. Smudge your eyeliner to define lashes without a harsh line and be sure and lavish on mascara, with softer colored eyes, you need the emphasis. Please --PLEASE don't forget your brows. Cheeks are softly glowing and help balance out a softer, more beautiful face for spring. A touch of blush (or cheek stain) is all you need and it should be sheer, not slathered on, but gently brushed on and definitely blended for a hint or glow of color.

Warm weather is peeping over the horizon. Spring brings fresh looks from classic to retro flowing into summer beauty that sizzles. Spring fashions are shiny and bright and sheer and light. Look for soft draped fabrics, floral prints and bright colors. Add a pop of color, neon brights, tropical prints, floral and graphic prints and shimmer and shine for an updated look for Spring. Fashion is relaxed and easy with lighter fabrics and easy looks. Denim is light and faded, blazers are loose and relaxed and shirts range from slouchy big shirts to fitted tees. Dresses range from soft and floaty in soft draped fabrics to close and fitted with asymmetric necklines, angular looks, figure hugging, close fitting wrapped looks. The newest pants are cropped to just above the ankle with soft draping at the hip, boyfriend jeans that are relaxed at the hip and tapered to just above the ankle. The most extreme look is billowy harem style pants that are very upscale this season. Shorts are just as acceptable as pants or a skirt and are paired with jackets for a spring fashion statement. Jumpsuits made every runway - from shorts one pieces to full length, they are pretty, closer fitting and shapely. Wear them with fancy flats, bold accessories or sky high heels. Jackets are softer and easier and for a current look, try an oversized jacket and push up the sleeves. Top your casual jeans with this up to the minute jacket look. Fringe and sequins appear on everything from swimsuits to shoes and from dresses and tops to accessories. Look for them for day and evening. Prints are everywhere and are hot geometrics, large and small florals all in tropically influenced color combinations and appear on dresses, blouses and even totes. Colors influences come from bright sunny days to soft tropical nights. The hot brights for the season - orange, yellow. Touches of dark blue, black and gray are seen but head to toe darks are too heavy a look for the Spring season. Zebra prints replace your usual animal prints and nautical influences continue to look current. Neutrals are nude, ranging from beige with a hint of pink or peach, green or blue. Flesh tones rule and are especially current in sheer fabrics. Look for chiffon and tons of ruffles. A no-no is obvious undergarments. A sheer dress is paired with a short simple slip underneath. Camisoles go under sheer ruffled blouses. While sheer is hot, showing everything is not. Look for body shapers and figure fixers to streamline the tummy and hips for body clinging dresses. Hoodies and running pants and bicycle shorts all make the move from the gym to daytime wear. Look for chic sportswear that is just too luxurious for exercising. Purses are big and bold. They go from work to party. Oversized clutches and totes, chains and straps all carry everything you need from morning to night. Quilted fabrics, printed totes, luxury leather - the purse is noticeable this Spring. Sky High Heels are the word for Spring. They are higher than ever with 5 inch heels more common than ever. Look for platforms (remember to lift your feet as you walk), wedges and stilettos to stretch the season’s more casual clothes. Big, wide belts cinch the waist, bold rings, huge necklaces and loads of bangles dress up any outfit. Jumbo jewels add an edge to an easy outfit and are a necessary part of daytime and evening dressing.

Great new spring fashions and looks call for new spring makeup. We have new colors to choose from and they’ll all carry you through Spring into Summer. Springs Looks are lighter and brighter with lots of shimmer, shine and sparkle. Put away flat, heavy colors with your winter clothes and bring out the brights for Spring. Lips are wet looking and lighter and always topped with gloss, eyes are ‘done’ but the colors are sheer and shimmery using liner above and shadow below for added definition. Cheeks have color but its sheer color that gives a lot of lift to the face and the face is natural looking with a perfect complexion. Face - for the complexion you need to carry off the spring brights, start with concealer and cover dark shadows and imperfections. Use one shade lighter to give lift to dark undereye shadows and blend all the way to the edge of the eye so your eyes don’t appear to ‘sink’ into your face. Dark shadows can ruin the lightweight looks of spring and tend to appear during the spring because of allergies. We recommend using the Undereye Lightening Gel to start (to help lighten dark shadows) and Soothing Eye Gel if you have puffiness. Use the Camouflage Oval Eye Brush and the Mineral Eye Concealer to cover undereye shadows. (The Mineral Eye Concealer also has some lighteners in it to help lighten shadows.) It you start with clear skin, the lighter weight colors and products are easier to use and look better. Follow your concealer with liquid foundation if you need a bit more help or use Mineral Powder if your complexion is fairly even. Both will give you some sun protection (which can be ramped up if you spend a lot of time outdoors). For the most flawless finish we recommend the liquid foundation followed by the loose mineral powder. You maximize the wear and end up with the smoothest looking skin. Your foundation and powder should match your skin tone. If you spend time in the sun and get some color, your regular color may need to be adjusted for spring and especially for summer. If you use too light or dark a color it looks made-up. “The look” is natural (you only better!). With a custom blend match, you’ll look and feel better. Use a dry or just damp sponge to blend out liquid foundation – this removes any excess and gives a smooth, even finish that helps prevent caking. Dust everything with loose mineral powder. Even if you have dry skin, the powder will set your make-up increasing the wear and gives a smooth even finish that wears beautifully. Eyes - for the beautiful eyes that are a highlight of the season, you’ll need to put away heavy matte shadows and try some new sheer, shimmery colors for spring. Below are three ‘looks’ that you can do yourself. Eyes are lined on top and shadow is used below to softly define eyes. Lips have color and shimmer this season but without doing your eyes, you are missing an opportunity to shine. Start with a medium color on the lid and brush it lightly over the entire lid. We recommend using the Shadow Sponge Brush if you are a beginner but for more precise placement, the Angle Eye Brush is the brush to use. Your darker colored shadow should be applied in the crease to add definition and shape to the lid and to create additional depth and interest. Use the Angle Eye Brush to apply directly into the crease. Use this same color underneath the lower lash line using the Deluxe Liner Brush. This ties it together, adds definition and finishes your eye. Use the lightest/brightest color directly underneath the brow bone to add lift to the eye. Use the Fluff Brush to apply onto the brow bone. Blend all the shadow colors with the Fluff Brush or the Maxi Blender Brush. This eliminates noticeable lines and gives an overall finished look. Line along the top lashes with an eye liner pencil. The color of the liner should blend with the darkest shadow color. It adds definition and makes your eyes ‘pop’. While the shadows look great alone, for that final bit that turns good to great, don’t forget to line and lavish Mascara over those lashes. Cheeks - cheeks are sheer but have a natural glowing color to balance your face. Without a hint of color on your cheeks, your eyes and lips will look dark and unbalanced. Cheek color should go directly onto the apple of the cheek (use the Blusher Brush and start at the apple of the cheek and blend back towards the hairline). Be sure to blend your blush with the Angle Contour Brush to eliminate noticeable lines. If you are very active, we suggest using the Cheek Stain underneath to keep some color on your face even if you wear off your regular blush during the day. Lips - matte lips are okay for Spring if they are topped with gloss but everything is shimmery, shiny or glossy. It doesn’t have to have tons of shine if that isn’t your thing, but a touch of gloss on top of a matte lip will add life and make your lips look fresh and lively for Spring. Colors are bright and cheerful with every color showing up although you’ll see less brown (more mocha and plum) and lots and lots and lots of pinks, peaches, reds, oranges and mauves – all with more or less shine. We still like a lined lip to add definition, especially if you tend to get ‘slide’ but top it with a fun colored lipstick and add a touch of gloss for the most current look. Our glosses are available in both a pot and wand. Use a fingertip with the pot to dot a bit of gloss on or the wand has an applicator. Just dot the gloss on top and smudge your lips together. The most important keys to looking great for Spring is that everything is ‘pretty’ and light – heavier looks are tired looking. Shine is important and all your makeup should be well-blended. No makeup lines or noticeable color changes. Eye makeup should be blended; you are looking for great looking eyes, not pretty eye shadow! And PLEASE don’t forget to do those brows!

Yes, you've heard it all before --- don't forget your sunscreen. If you are going to spend time outdoors, be sure and wear sunscreen, especially on your face and hands but don't forget ears and other exposed areas). Liquid Foundation and Mineral Powder both have sunscreen but if you are in and out all day or outside most of the time, you can increase the level of sunscreen in both products. Sunscreen should be applied about 20-30 minutes before exposure to the sun and reapplied often. Don't get burned if you can help it -- your skin will show it later.

Yes, Summer is 'almost' here and while we are all anxiously awaiting it, you can be prepared for skincare changes. You look your best when your skin is in the best shape it can be in. The usual problems are shininess and breakouts but a good skincare routine helps alleviate the worst of the 'symptoms'. You might need to switch to a less rich moisturizer, step up your masque and perhaps change your night creme. You can also 'boost' the effects of your moisturizer by using a serum underneath it. The chart below shows the moisturizers in order from richest to most oil controlling with the corresponding serum for the moisturizer and the correct night creme/night treatment and masque. If your skin is looking a little 'shiny' and feels less fresh go down one level.

We also highly recommend our morning 'treatment combo' for caring for maturing skin. If you are over 40, it's time to jump on the bandwagon and implement some prevention -- if you are older, it can still help and everyone is seeing great results.
For Morning Use
1. Cleanser The Botanical Bio-Peptide helps your skin repair/rejuvenate the collagen and elastin which is what gives your skin structure, and with age breaks down causing lines and wrinkles. The Firming Complex helps hydrate your skin and hold moisture on the surface of your skin causing it to look firmer and stay fresher looking during the day. Also helps improve the look and wear of your makeup. The Advanced Lightening Creme is to help fade dark spots from age, blemishes, etc. Use directly on the dark spot morning and night. The Gentle Resurfacing Lotion smoothes your face and has the added benefit of helping to prevent dead skin cells from accumulating and contains SPF15 so you are protected from the sun, which is necessary even in winter.
