Fall 2005 Make-up Update

Make-up for Fall 2005

Fall brings more variety back into the fashion world. Fabrics are richer, texture is prevalent and prints, patterns and bold graphics stand out. Colors are deeper and more intense and fabrics are more luxurious and heavier. These richer looks require a new look for your makeup. New colors are available or you can use your existing colors, but they are paired in new ways to keep your look current. The softer look of Spring and summer is gone and makeup is a must for Fall.

Jackets are an essential piece this season with lengths ranging from short to long and shapes ranging from loose to structured. Every look can use a jacket from short or long skirts to tailored pants or jeans.

Wool, tweed, cashmere – fabrics are intensely lush and texture is everywhere. Color is dramatic in both prints and solids and prints are combined to create original looks. Color and fabric are the most important parts and should be layered together to look current. Mix bold hues with earth tones or add bright accents to darker tones for a shock of brilliance. Neutrals are paired with bold, luxurious accents including belts, shoes, jewelry and scarves. Feathers, fur and other exciting accents make the looks fresh for this Fall.

To complement the latest fashion looks, nude and matte looks are coming back. Look for pale, matte lips paired with either a very neutral eye with well blended color or a dark dramatic eye with noticeable color (still well blended and in neutral tones). The lip is almost flesh colored with just a hint of tint giving a very natural looking lip. There is no noticeable line so lipliner should be transparent or a perfect match to your lipstick. Please note that this is NOT a ‘no’ makeup look, but the colors are soft and natural looking with a fresh look. This is a relatively dramatic and sophisticated look for a more upscale, high-fashion look and should be paired with the hottest looks in Fall Fashion.

The usual Fall colors: browns, greens, golds and oranges appear in both clothing and makeup and are joined by pinks, purples and blues. Red and Gold accents are the perfect complement to the season’s colors. Browns are rich, ranging from light taupes to rich chocolates. Greens and pinks range from dark to light but are fairly dusty rather than bright. Gold is the accent color of choice for the season and ranges from a pale hint of gold to a rich orangey-gold. Blues and Purples are rich and Reds are the hottest accent color with shades ranging from the lightest scarlet to the deepest wine. Hints of gloss and glimmer keep the looks rich and a noticeable shimmer overlays everything.

Overall, this season brings rich colors, the usual fall hues with blues and purples also showing up strongly. Gold is on everything from lips and eyes and cheeks to the body. Colors are earthy for cheeks and lips with slightly warmer reds and oranges the biggest news. Metallics add flare and deep reds add excitement. If you are fair, you can do a darker red, but make sure your lipstick is sheer rather than opaque.

Colors for Fall are richer than they have been, metallics and shimmers dazzle and everything ‘pops’. Look for high gloss, deep shimmer or soft matte. Colors are noticeable and actually appear have texture this season which is achieved by layering colors and adding shine.

The Face

Dewy natural glows are the best look for skin, with creamy, flushed cheeks replacing matte skin for a radiant look for Fall. Custom blend foundation and mineral powder will match your skin tone and can contain added luminizers to freshen your look. Luminizers add a glow to your makeup--this gives your face a 'lift' by making your skin look clearer and brighter. It also helps reflect light away from your skin, minimizing fine lines. Be sure and conceal shadows and lines (particularly under eyes) using either a custom concealer or our new Wand Concealer. Cheek Tints and Cheek Stains (use them together for best effect) and or Cheek Stains paired with Mineral Blushes are used to achieve the best Face this season.

Products You'll Need:

  • Custom Blend Concealer (or Wand Concealer)
  • Custom Blend Liquid Foundation and/or Mineral Powder Foundation

The Eyes

Eyes are always done (no skipping this season) and they are definitely made-up with color, shine, liner and lushly mascaraed lashes. Start with Eye Base to keep your shadows in place all day. Follow with your shadows (Mineral or Pressed Powder) or try our new Eye Glazes and Puddings (our new favorites). Be sure and line your eyes with either an Eyeliner or mix a drop of Eyeliner Sealer with your shadow to form a paste and using the Deluxe Liner or Thin Eyeliner Brush, line your eyes. Top with Mascara to balance a richer looking eye. Even if you do a pale, matte lip, you’ll still needs your eyes to be ‘done’, just select lighter or darker neutral colors and be sure and line and mascara to balance your look. Be sure and finish with your brows (darker eyes may require a touch to brows for a finished look). You’ll also need to invest in some Eye Makeup Remover – either the liquid or gel – to easily remove your makeup without irritation.

Products You'll Need:

  • Anti-Oxidant Eyebase or Eye Fix
  • EyeShadows and/or Eye Glaze and Eye Pudding
  • Eyeliner Sealer

The Lips

Lips pout from natural to the deepest wine, with Reds the biggest news for the season. Pinks, Browns and Oranges also make a showing. Lips are natural looking even when saturated with color – so liners should be transparent or match your lipstick. If you are going to use a red lipstick, we recommend lining to help prevent bleeding but match your color or pair a Mineral Lip Base with a Mineral Lipstick (same color/different formulation) which are designed to work together for the best looks. Match with nails that are dark and spicy with neutral colors fading with the summer.
